Short Stack

Except not. At all. I finally got all of those HSTs made, and here they all are...

Untitled

My friends, that is 11.5 inches of HST that need to be pressed and trimmed. And trimming HSTs are my least favorite quilting task ever. Which is sad, because I seem to make a lot of HST-based quilts...

Here they are all pressed. May the trimming commence!!

P.S. I have been getting lots of questions about the table! I got it from Beba's Boutique, which is a booth from the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show. I've been looking at their tables for the last couple years, and finally decided to pull the trigger. I've been using it for a couple weeks and love it, and even pulled out the extension table and side slidey-thingy to quilt a baby quilt with a friend of mine a little bit ago. It was amazing - so much space!! And just to be clear, I am in no way affiliated with Beba's, they have no idea I even blog or anything.

Then all of her dreams came true...

I got myself a present when I went to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show... Remember when I brought Bridget home almost a year and a half ago? Since then I've wanted to get a drop-in table so I can quilt on a flat surface.

I tried the Gidget table, and it was way too rickety when quilting, so I returned it. I also looked into Horn and Koala tables, and was disappointed with the quality for the price. So then I looked into building one from components from Ikea/Home Depot, and that would have worked, but wouldn't have a lift capability. I even looked into having one custom made by a carpenter friend.

So when I was at MAQS a few weeks ago, I saw this...

Isn't she pretty?! Solid wood, with a lift, and look at what she does!!!

There is also this little weird drawer thing on the right side, and when I saw it I had no idea what I would use it for, but look - all my little stuff that I need to have on hand when I'm working fit in there perfectly! And I don't have to have everything cluttering the top of the table!

This is exactly what I wanted, with no extra bells and whistles, and I didn't have to pay extra for the flip up table in the back, or the pull out thingy on the left. Perfect! It was a little bit of an impulse buy, so I called my Dad to talk me out of it. Of course he said that since I've been looking for a table like this for a year and a half, I should get what I want. And since it is really good quality solid wood, he said that I could pass it down to my daughters one day. Way to make me tear up in public, Daddy, thanks.

I would love to be playing with it, but I had some minor surgery on Friday and I've been on the couch since! Charlotte is doing a very good job of taking care of me, though - she's a good snuggler!

Nuggetbaby has been keeping me company after surgery. She's a good snuggler...

Neurotic

I cut out the fabric for the new baby quilt. Most of it, anyway.

It shows how neurotic I can be...

It's amazing how satisfying this can be... Now they're all sorted and ready to be made into a gazillion HSTs!! This comes the hard part...

The WIP That Wasn't

I mentioned a while ago that I started making a quilt for my best friend's new baby...

I just wasn't feeling it though. I like it, but I felt like I was "forcing" it, if you know what I mean? I thought for a long time what I wanted to do, but nothing was really clicking. So of course, feeling crunched for time (the baby was born in december) I just started with some fabric I liked, and a pattern that I have been wanting to do for a while.

It's not pieced yet, but I intend to finish it. I might sell it, or give it to someone else. I haven't decided. Have any of you ever sold a quilt on etsy or something before? How did it go?

I really like what it turned into, but it just doesn't feel "right" for her. So that's what the pretty pile of repros from the other day are for - baby quilt take 2! I saw a quilt on pinterest or something and knew right away that it was perfect. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get it started! :-)

Sunday Stash and MAQS Recap

I went to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt show last weekend, and believe it or not, I bought some fabric! lol

Untitled

In addition to these super sweet repros, I also got some Lizzy and Tula, and a stencil set thing so I can improve my FMQ a little bit. I also got my first skeins of "fancy" yarn! (Aka not from Joann's/Michaels/AC Moore) I think these will become some really sweet Christmas-y socks!

I didn't actually take any photos of the actual show quilts, because I was distracted by another purchase, which is getting it's own post next week!

In the meantime, I'll tease you with the promise of a new quilt in the next couple of weeks. I'm turning these 30's prints into a quilt for my BFF's new baby. Who will probably be walking by the time it's finished. But at least I am SO much more inspired with this than the quilt I was working on for her before!

Jagged Little Pill

I took some time to quilt my new mini the other day! I was calling this mini 'Prozac' for a hot second, as a reflection of the therapeutic effects of quilting/sewing, but then I realized that 'Jagged Little Pill' was way more fitting, and goes along with my naming-quilts-after-songs thing. :-)

I decided to do some lines radiating out from each of the segments, about 1/4" apart. It was tedious at first, but once I got in the groove it actually started to go pretty quickly. I can't imagine doing an entire quilt like this though!

I machine bound it in the teal ombre, which was perfect for this! My machine binding skillz are improving, though I still prefer hand binding.

WIP Wednesday!

What?? A WIP? That's so exciting! Lol. It doesn't take much to excite me about sewing lately!

Anywho, here is something I threw together the other night when I was in need of some instant gratification...

I got a super cute mini charm pack from my LQS a little bit ago, and I decided to make one of Julie's Rock Candy quilt blocks, just teeny!

There seems to be a theme going on in my sewing room lately, as you might have seen on instagram. Stars, anyone?

Hellooooo!!!

Hi everybody! I knew I had been busy and non-bloggish for a while, but I had no idea it had been this long!

So what have I been up to? School, that's what. I'm taking pharmacology this semester, and it's kicking my butt! I'm also taking another class, but it's not too bad. I'm sooo ready for pharm to be over, though!

Since I haven't had much time to sew, I bought some fabric...

Yeah, my Christmas money was gone almost immediately lol!

I've also been working on a new quilt, but I'm not loving it... We'll see how it turns out!

Chain piecing makes me feel so productive :-)
